The incident occurred in the Anupshahar area of Bulandshahr district, where four unidentified men arrived at the trader’s home claiming to be CBI officials. Exploiting the authority associated with the central investigative agency, the suspects gained entry into the house without raising immediate suspicion.
Once inside, the situation escalated rapidly. According to preliminary police findings, the accused were armed and threatened the family at gunpoint. They forcibly confined all family members to a single room, effectively preventing any resistance or call for help. The assailants then proceeded to ransack the house, escaping with approximately ₹5 lakh in cash along with jewellery valued at several lakhs of rupees.
After committing the robbery, the men fled the scene, leaving the family locked inside. The victims later managed to alert local authorities, prompting an immediate police response. Law enforcement teams reached the spot soon after, secured the premises, and began collecting evidence. An investigation has been launched to identify and track down the culprits, with police examining possible CCTV footage and other leads from the area.
Officials have described the crime as a serious breach of public trust, noting that the misuse of a prestigious agency’s identity enabled the offenders to carry out the robbery with alarming ease. Police are also investigating whether the gang has been involved in similar incidents elsewhere by impersonating officials.
